Kashika Whitelaw and Denesha McGhee, RN, founded Quality Beginnings believing in the power of compassionate caregiving. They have shown their unwavering commitment to excellence in home care and pride in their focus on client’s needs as individuals. Their main goal is to improve the quality of life for their clients and be a beacon of hope and support for families in the community.
Quality Beginnings is a non-medical, in-home care business that provides personalized support to the elderly and disabled individuals. They offer a wide range of services such as companion care, technical services, personal care, and specialty care. They also provide education and resources to the community by partnering with different resources that support clients in living independently.
There was always a passion for being part of the medical field for Kashika and Denesha before Quality Beginnings started. Seeing other companies and how they handle clients made them realize that more action is needed to focus on clients.
Kashika’s career focused more on the operational side of things, by helping healthcare companies scale with education and knowledge of insurance policies, or with technology that aids in processes and systems. Kashika has gained valuable information and realized what companies lacked, to further assist her in offering an educational standpoint to clients. She expands, “They do not know what type of insurance they have. We are assisting them with establishing care with a healthcare organization or scheduling a visit or appointment. When asking them about their insurance, we can decipher what, if any, type of visit their insurance will cover, and if there is a deductible attached. A common question we are asked is ‘Why can’t I have those services?’ So just hearing and addressing those pain points goes a long way.”
Denesha has a more hands-on experience. As a registered nurse she has worked at the bedside, in the clinical setting, and even administration in home healthcare. She has been able to see and compare the impact of individuals in recovery at the hospital versus in the comfort of their homes. She saw how important it was for individuals to be in a familiar space to assist in assuring their recovery and quality of life.
Together, Kashika and Denesha combined both spectrums of healthcare to fuel their dedication and commitment to excel in the in-home care business.
GNWBC’s Snap & Boost Program offered major help to Kashika and Denesha. In the program, they were able to establish their names as individuals and agency visibility by networking within our platform. Their agency information is also located on our GNWBC website. Most importantly they have gained more knowledge in the business field, specifically within their industry. Even though they came to GNWBC with their business plan completed, they were able to focus more on the information presented, allowing them to leave with an even better business plan. Kashika sums it up by saying, “Instead of just coming into class focusing on getting this done, we got to focus on what we could change. What we have and compare.” Denesha added, “(We gained) that knowledge base of how to navigate through certain things that maybe we weren’t even thinking about at first.”
GNWBC is thrilled to see the progress of Kashika, Denesha, and Quality Beginnings Homecare Agency! When they first came into Snap & Boost and even after the program, they both showed their innovative approaches, relentless dedication, and exceptional service in the home care industry. It is known that the community has been their priority and they have always shown themselves to focus on their clients and their needs. Both have set a new standard, and we could not be any prouder to celebrate their success!
