Women’s History Month

Every year, March is designated as Women’s History Month. This month is set aside to honor Women’s contributions in American history. The theme for Women’s History Month this year is: Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories. However, Women’s History Month didn’t start out as what it is today.  In 1987,  after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress designated the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month.

GNWBC celebrates Women’s History Month by recognizing the contributions women have made to the United States and sharing the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields. This year, GNWBC wants to share the story of Ida B. Wells. Ida was a prominent journalist, activist, and researcher, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In her lifetime, she battled sexism, racism, and violence. Through it all, Wells-Barnett also used her skills as a journalist to shed light on the conditions of African Americans throughout the South, which later in her life led an anti-lynching crusade in the United States in the 1890s.

It has always been our mission to serve all Women, Cultures and Communities in achieving their Educational, Professional and Entrepreneurial goals. We believe in the potential of Women, Minorities, Immigrants and Families and choose to Educate, Train and help them obtain successful business ownership and employment; This Month and every other month of year we get the chance to do just that!

The GNWBC asks our community to celebrate and support Women’s History Month and the many important roles of Women have played in the U.S. like Ida B. Wells, Toni Morrison, Malala Yousafzai, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Harriet Tubman,  and so many others in our country. United we Stand! Happy Black History Month.
