The Celebration of a Community

June 2022 represented a milestone of success and triumph for GROW Nebraska Women’s Business Center. This month we excitedly announced our second edition of our premier Business Snap & Boost Program – a 5-week training that teaches new business owners how to create their business plan, define their vision & mission, gain financial and budget forecasting assistance and quality customer service training. As we make great strides on economic inclusion and diversity, let us not forget our history and the patriarchs who paved the way for equality.

Over 155 years ago, the last of the black slaves in Texas were told they were finally free. It wasn’t soon after that many left their master’s homes in search of their families and to start a new life. Every year on June 19th, the black community unites together to honor their strength, resilience and persistence through celebration with friends and family.

The GNWBC encourages our community, allies and friends to firstly take time and reflect on the true meaning of Juneteenth; the struggles black ancestors had to endure to insure freedoms in 2022 and beyond. This year, we give thanks and make a promise to our ancestors – we won’t forget their sacrifices and will always be a living representation of everything Juneteenth stands for. Freedom.
